KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Retired Kalamazoo County official David Artley and Kalamazoo Township trustee Pamela Brown Goodacre say they both remember being homeless and how hard it was.
Both are in support of the “Vote Yes For Kids” initiative. Voters are being asked to approve a mill levy that, according to supporters of the tax, would be put toward helping around 600 local homeless families.
“I know what it is to go to school and not have a place to call home, or not know whether I’m going to have a meal,” Artley said during a Kalamazoo Township Board meeting Tuesday.
“I remember being looked upon as some kind of failure, some kind of bum,” Goodacre said.
Both say it was help from the community that turned their lives around. Without the help, they might not be where they are today.
