KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Both the Kalamazoo City and County boards have committed to reducing and eliminating discrimination in their workforces. And there will be changes in the people chosen to direct that work.
Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema has announced that their first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director Dorla Bonner plans to retire soon.
Bonner has held the D.E.I. position for about two years, but has been with the city for over a decade.
Ritsema says he is still formulating a transition plan. And Kalamazoo County has just hired their first D.E.I. Director. Alvin Gray was chosen from a list of 100 applicants, and has hit the ground running.
Before taking on this position, Gray had been doing similar work in Calhoun County.
Both governmental units have committed resources and set up structures to facilitate the task at hand and are beginning that work.
