GALESBURG (WKZO-AM) — Voters in the Galesburg-Augusta area will be asked this Tuesday to approve a $14 million bond issue to fund improvements at the community’s middle, primary and high schools.
The money would cover a major renovation of the 40-year-old middle school, some safety and security fixes at all three buildings and technology upgrades.
Dr. Dania Bazzi, the district’s superintendent, said cash would also be put toward reconstruction of Maskill Field, moving the facility to the high school.
“We haven’t had a home track meet since the early 2000s,” Bazzi said. “The track is just not in good shape.”
“People ask a lot to fix it,” Bazzi said. “It’s close to $1 million.”
If approved, homeowners can expect to see a property tax increase of around $47.50 per $100,000 of assessed value.
Voters in the community rejected school bond requests in 2012 totaling $11 million.
