KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Premiums on Affordable Care Act policies are expected to increase about 7.5 percent this year nationwide, but local healthcare officials say Kalamazoo County residents shouldn’t expect that big of a big spike.
Amy Terry with Enroll Kalamazoo County says Obamacare enrollees may have to shop around a bit this year to find the less-expensive policies, but they are out there.
“There are some insurance companies were the premiums went up two, three, four or five percent, but there are some that are five percent lower,” Terry said.
Terry said, overall, the sign-up process hasn’t changed much and is bit more user-friendly this year.
There were about 35,000 people who signed up for health insurance last year, either through the exchanges or through an expansion in Medacaid.
