KALAMAZOO COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — In election results from Tuesday’s off-year city elections, Kalamazoo Incumbent Mayor Bobby Hopewell has won reelection. Don Cooney will serve as Vice-Mayor.
Incumbent Commissioners Dave Anderson and Jack Urban have won reelecton with newcomers Erin Knott, Shannon Sykes, and Matt Milcarek picking up the three remaining seats. It means incumbent Eric Cunningham has been ousted.
Incumbent Portage City Council members Richard Ford, Jim Pearson and Patricia Randall will be back. Mayor Pete Strazdas was unopposed for another two year term.
Also in Portage, two bond proposals totaling $144 million dollars will build two new middle schools passed. It will also mean swimming pools and football facilities for the two high schools in Portage.
It also appears that a special millage to help homeless families countywide has passed. Over the six-year life of the millage, it’s expected to help hundreds of families regain self-sufficiently and give hundreds of children a place to call home.
It appears a marijuana referendum in Portage has narrowly passed.
A $14 million bond issue for the Galesburg-Augusta schools failed.
Voters in Charleston Township have rejected a tax increase to fund road maintenance and improvements.
