PLAINWELL (WKZO-AM) — Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser wanted to give voters a chance to decide their fate and not leave their political careers to their colleagues in Lansing, and, in both cases, voters rejected their bids for re-election in resounding fashion.
Both Tea Party Republicans were involved in a scandal that involved sex, intrigue, malfeasance and both remain under criminal investigation. She was expelled. He would have been if he hadn’t resigned to avoid an expulsion vote.
An emotional Cindy Gamrat conceded defeat at her home in Plainwell last night, saying she did her best.
Whiteford won with 52 percent of the vote, Jim Storey received 24 percent and Gamrat came in third with nine percent. Five other candidates followed her.
Whiteford will now face retired judge and Democrat David Gernat in a special election next March.
In the meantime, Gamrat and Courser’s former districts will not be represented.
Gary Howell won the Republican primary in Lapeer County. Courser finished toward the bottom of the pack.
