KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Election officials in Kalamazoo County say voter turnout for Tuesday’s election settled at just over 18.5 percent.
County Clerk Tim Snow says that’s about what he was expecting.
“For this type of an election, that’s probably pretty normal, unfortunately,” Snow said.
But he also said Portage buoyed that average, thanks in part to a marijuana legalization referendum and two school bonds totaling $144 million.
“Portage did very well,” Snow said. “They had 31 percent.”
A school bond question also pushed turnout in Galesburg-Augusta into higher-than-average territory.
Snow said there weren’t any issues with malfunctioning equipment Tuesday night, and poll workers had the ballots counted about three hours after polling places closed.
