TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – A Coldwater resident was killed late Sunday afternoon in a crash involving a sedan and a semi on southbound I-69 near N-60 in Calhoun County’s Tekonsha Township.
Michigan State Police report the crash took place at about 5:00 p.m. as the semi was traveling south bound while the sedan was traveling north in the south bound lanes of the interstate.
Upon impact, both vehicles burst into flames and burned extensively. The driver of the sedan, 44-year-old Shannon Lee Risner, perished at the scene.
Anthony Washington of Dekalb, Illinois was the driver of the semi and was not injured.
South bound I-69 had to be shut down for clean up operations.
The State Police are still investigating the crash. They were assisted by the Branch and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Departments, the Tekonsha Fire Department and Patriot Spill Response.
