KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County residents will be voting to renew a law enforcement and safety millage in a special election on Tuesday, May 3rd.
Kalamazoo County Commission Chair Mike Quinn says that the millage was first approved in 1980 and has been renewed every six years since then.
This year’s millage renewal of 1.43 mills will cost taxpayers $143 per $100,000 of taxable value, slightly less than renewals in previous years of 1.44 mills.
If passed, the millage would raise $13.6 million dollars in 2022 and would continue through 2027.
The money would go towards making improvements and maintaining functions for the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Kalamazoo County Circuit Court, 8th District Court, the Animal Services and Enforcement Department, and the Office of Community Corrections.
