PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage is getting closer to filling the vacancy in its City Manager’s office.
At their regular meeting Tuesday, the Portage City Council identified five applicants to invite to interview for the position of City Manager. The Council also set a
special meeting on Saturday, April 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to conduct interviews. The interviewees and interview times:
9:00 a.m. Andrew Dymczyk, Township Manager, DeWitt Charter Township, Michigan
10:00 a.m. Jade Smith, Municipal Services Director, Canton Township, Michigan
11:00 a.m. Patrick McGinnis, City Manager, City of Grand Haven, Michigan
1:00 a.m. Peter Dame, City Manager, City of Grosse Pointe, Michigan
2:00 a.m. Nate Geinzer, City Manager, City of Brighton, Michigan
City officials say the council intends to narrow the candidate field after the initial interviews, with the potential for a second interview with the candidates selected to move forward. The council hopes to have a new City Manager identified in May.
The City Council began its search for a new City Manager after the resignation of Joseph S. LaMargo in August 2021. LaMargo, who had been the City Manager in Portage since November 2019, returned to Illinois to be closer to family.
Frank Walsh of Walsh Municipal Services was hired by the Council in February to conduct the search on behalf of the city.
