BENTON HARBOR (WKZO-AM) — A man believed to be a serial burglar, who had actually taken up residence in a home in Van Buren County that did not belong to him, has been captured.
Now investigators are trying to determine just how many crimes he may have committed.
William Statler III was on the run after he was found living in a remote summer home near Sister Lakes in Van Buren County by the son of the owner and his neighbor, who was a retired police officer.
When confronted, he assaulted the two and left his girlfriend behind to be arrested.
He was captured Monday in Benton Harbor. He is expected to face burglary and other charges in both Berrien and Van Buren County.
