KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The 51st Kalamazoo City Commission has been sworn into office.
Outgoing commissioners Bob Cinabro, Barb Miller and Eric Cunningham were all given state resolutions, parting gifts and standing ovations by the standing-room-only crowd as they relinquished their seats Monday night.
There are four incumbents, including Mayor Bobby Hopewell, and three new commissioners, Shannon Sykes, Erin Knott and Matt Milcarek, who were elected just last Tuesday.
Hopewell said he is looking forward to working with the new commission.
This is just going to be amazing,” Hopewell said. “I think the voters did a pretty darn good job.”
There is no honeymoon period for new commissioners, who will face a steep learning curve as they will soon be presented with the city manager’s proposed budget for next year.
