KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The 34-year-old sister of a man shot and killed by police has been given 12-months of probation following a stand-off with officers in Portage.
Michelle Pelletier was accused of resisting arrest.
While she will not face any additional jail time, she has already served nearly 5 months in the Kalamazoo County Jail waiting for Monday’s hearing, unable to pay bond. She is one of several siblings ignoring an eviction notice filed by their mother to get them out of her home on Raborn Court, according to prosecutors.
During the hearing, she told Judge Paul Bridenstine that she felt she did not get a fair trial and that her attempts to testify on her own behalf were cut off by the judge.
Her sister, Amy, faces the same charges but has not yet been tried.
Pelletier’s brother Sean was killed in a shootout with police after a high-speed chase.
Another brother, Aaron, has since recovered after being wounded by police gunfire. He may also face a list of charges.
