BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Police in Battle Creek have released the name of the victim who was shot in the head by a mugger on Sunday morning.
The 21-year-old suspect, who has a history of violent crimes, is due in court today to be formally charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, several gun felonies and possession with intent to deliver heroin.
The victim, Nayef Mohsen Ali-Saeed, remains in critical condition at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. They believe he was preparing to open the M&S Food Market at Post and Illinois streets when he was confronted by the suspect.
It’s not clear why the gunman felt it was necessary to open fire on the unarmed store manager.
Police, armed with a description of the gunman provided by neighbors, was able to track him down a few blocks away after the shooting.
