KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A number of special events are scheduled Wednesday in the area to mark Veterans Day.
Work on the revamped and restored war memorial at Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo has just been finished. It will be rededicated during ceremonies Wednesday at 2 p.m. off Gull Road.
Portage will hold their annual commemoration at the Veterans Memorial near the city’s library at 11 a.m.
In Vicksburg, ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m. WKZO-AM’s Jim McKinney, who is also a veteran, will be the guest speaker.
Two forgotten veterans whose cremated remains were recently found in Schoolcraft will be interred with military honors during ceremonies at Schoolcraft Township Cemetery at 1 p.m. Their ashes sat unclaimed for 16 and 36 years respectively.
he biggest commemoration will, once again, be held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. It will be held at the traditional 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
