KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Gov. Rick Snyder is scheduled this morning to address conferees at this year’s PromiseNet event at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo.
It was 10 years ago that anonymous donors announced the unique scholarship program, saying they would fund the college or post-secondary program tuition of any Kalamazoo Public Schools graduate.
A gala celebration is also set for Wednesday night.
Spokesman Von Washington Jr. said the program will never end, despite concerns from the public.
“It hasn’t been provided to individual students, it has been provided to a community,” Washington said. “It has been promised in perpetuity, and that is different than any other scholarship that we know.”
Tonight’s celebration will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
