JACKSON (WKZO-AM) — A winter storm that has already battered the Plains with everything from tornadoes to blizzards has rolled into west Michigan, and while it has weakened, it could still pack winds of up to 50 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph.
Consumers Energy spokesperson Terry Dedoes says the utility is ready, should outages occur.
“We are making sure we have the field staff and the office staff in place to respond,” Dedoes said.
Safety officials are advising residents to stay off beaches. Piers and some roads near Lake Michigan have already been closed.
Meterologists say the winds could continue into Friday, with a high likelihood of downed tree limbs and power outages throughout the region. No snow is expected for southern Michigan, but heavy rain is possible.
