KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to six months probation after admitting to her role in a drunken crash in Kalamazoo.
Noemi Garza, 32, of Hastings pleaded guilty to driving drunk and possessing a firearm while intoxicated in October. She was arrested June 13 after a two-car wreck at Douglas Avenue and Forbes Street.
Prosecutors say Garza tried to walk away from police after the collision. She then berated a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer, tried to wriggle out of handcuffs and kicked the door of a squad car after being arrested.
She later apologized for her actions.
Garza was suspended without pay for two weeks, with Sheriff Matt Saxton citing violations of the agency’s conduct policy.
