KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Western Michigan men’s basketball will be heading to Chicago to start their regular season against DePaul.
Head coach Steve Hawkins said he’s expecting his Broncos to be ready for the Big East opponent this Saturday. He also said he liked what he saw during last weekend’s exhibition against Kalamazoo College.
“I think we’re in pretty good position in terms of what we have to do,” Hawkins said. “They’re a challenge, and it’s going to be a huge challenge.”
The game is part of a difficult non-conference slate for the Broncos, which includes a game against SEC power Vanderbilt.
Hawkins said the schedule should get his team ready for Mid-American Conference play.
“I’ve seen teams that have played a very easy schedule in the non-conference, then they get into conference play and have a huge rude awakening,” Hawkins said.
Tip-off for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 9 p.m. The game will be carried on 96.5 WZOX-FM in the Kalamazoo area.
