KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Comstock Township woman responsible for the stabbing death of her 35-year-old boyfriend Wednesday has been released from jail, after prosecutors kicked the case back to detectives for additional investigation.
A suspect can only be held for 48 hours without formal charges.
Undersheriff Pauli Matyas said his agency isn’t disclosing many facts at this stage, but says the case involves self-defense.
“I think that’s an element of the case that the prosecutor’s looking at,” Matyas said. “It’s a very difficult case.”
The victim has been identified as David DeGoede, who, according to WWMT-TV, had an on-again, off-again relationship with the woman since she was 15.
He was a registered sex offender living at the woman’s home on Carter Street.
