ST. JOSEPH COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — The suspect in a high-profile murder of an 11-year-old has waived preliminary hearing and will proceed to trial.
Daniel Furlong faces open murder, felony murder and kidnap charges in the strangulation death of Jodi Parrack, whose body was found by her mother in a Constantine Township cemetery in 2007.
When the 65-year-old was arrested for assaulting a young girl in his new home near White Pigeon this last July, he became a long-shot suspect in the Parrack murder. The hunch paid off when a routine DNA swab taken after that arrest produced a match with DNA recovered at the Parrack murder scene.
Waiving the exam will keep the evidence the prosecutor had against Furlong out of the media until the case goes to trial in a few months.
