LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Michigan is touting a leaner government after the creation of an agency tasked with culling hundreds of obsolete state rules and regulations.
The Office of Regulatory Reinvention is celebrating the reduction of over 2,000 rules at state departments since its creation in 2011. It was envisioned by Gov. Rick Snyder with the hope of reducing paperwork for prospective incoming businesses.
Among the state’s 16 departments and their combined 19,000 rules that were in place when the agency was established, roughly 600 redundant regulations have been taken off the books at the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
Hundreds have also been removed at other agencies, including Agriculture and Rural Development, Environmental Quality, Health and Human Services, and Technology, Management and Budget.
