DOWAGIAC (WKZO-AM) — A 16-year-old has been released to his parent after police say he fibbed to other students at Dowagiac Union High School that he had a gun.
The Dowagiac Police Department said its officers were able to determine the teenager did not bring a weapon and the school wasn’t in danger moments after getting to the campus Thursday.
Police started receiving calls after 1 p.m. about the conversation, but later determined no specific threat was made. They also say school operations continued as scheduled after both the child and the parent were pulled aside for questioning.
Detectives are still looking into the claim and say the boy and the parent remain in cooperation with the investigation.
