KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Two police dogs with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office will be getting brand new, custom-made Kevlar vests.
The new work gear for Ajax and Zeus will be paid for, in part, through a donation from Massachusetts-based Vested Interest in K9s, which was established in 2009 to help police agencies acquire the body armor.
The non-profit says each vest costs at least $1,700 and can weigh up to five pounds.
The stab-proof, bullet-proof vests will be produced by Central Lake-based Armor Express.
