DEARBORN (WKZO-AM) — AAA of Michigan says there’s a chance the statewide average gas price will dip below the $2 a gallon mark by the end of the year.
Susan Hiltz, a spokesperson with the auto club, said prices still have room to fall, in part, because of a global oversupply of crude, and because refineries are producing at full capacity again after finishing seasonal maintenance.
“Our forecast shows that we’ll get slightly below $2,” Hiltz said. “Anything below that is not in the forecast right now, but you’ll never know.”
The Michigan average was $2.17 to start the week, which is down 83 cents from last year.
Several stations in west Michigan lowered pump prices for regular below the $2 mark over the weekend.
GasBuddy.com says the average price in Kalamazoo is $2.04.
