KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Western Michigan University men’s basketball plays its regular season home opener Tuesday against San Diego.
WMU head coach Steve Hawkins says the Broncos went 1-1 against the Toreros in California last season, but also says they’re not all that familiar with their western opponent.
That’s because of new San Diego head coach Lamont Smith.
“They’re playing a different style of ball, they’re very disciplined, they’re very, very up-tempo and really push the fast break,” Hawkins said.
WMU fell to DePaul in Chicago over the weekend 69-63.
Tip-off at University Arena is set for 7 p.m. The game will be carried on 96.5 WZOX-FM in the Kalamazoo area.
