MARSHALL MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Calhoun County authorities continue to investigate a one vehicle accident Friday that claimed the life of an eight year old boy.
Deputies were called to the area of Struwin Rd near Poorman Rd in Pennfield Township at around 6 pm.
Upon arrival, deputies observed that a vehicle had struck a tree and was fully engulfed in flames.
Some people who lived nearby had helped the occupants of the car escape before the car caught on fire.
Deputies discovered that two of the four children involved in the crash had suffered serious injuries; despite efforts to treat the eight year old, he died of his injuries at the scene.
The second child was treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital, as was his 28 year old mother, who was the driver of the car.
The condition of the other children is not known.
Speed and alcohol are suspected to have contributed to the accident, which is being investigated by the Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team .
