CHARLOTTE, MI — Charlotte Fire Chief Robert Vogel is resigning effective April 4. He says he is stepping down from the fire department due to personal reasons.
However, the timing of the chief’s decision of Vogel’s resignation came the day after nearly all of the department’s volunteer firefighters quit in protest over what they called “interference by the city council” with fire department operations.
City officials say there is enough remaining staff to keep the city safe. The mid-Michigan fire department in Eaton County has six full-time, paid firefighters, all of whom are in administrative roles.
