KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Work is done on the two new roundabouts on Sprinkle Road near Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo.
The first cars and trucks filtered through the intersections Wednesday afternoon.
Nick Schirripa with the Michigan Department of Transportation said workers had to fight bad weather to get the area ready on time.
“The contractor worked through the weekend to do the paving, to make up some time they lost last week due to weather,” Schirripa said. “They worked overnight last night to get some of the pavement markings finished up and the signs put in.”
He said traffic will flow easier through the area once people get a hang of navigation.
“Don’t be scared, they’re really easy,” Schirripa said. “Just know what lane you want to be in, don’t pass, go slow, yield to the traffic in the roundabout, and take your turn and go.”
Ground was broken on the $15.5 million project in March.
