BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Three suspected bank robbers are in jail and two Battle Creek police officers on administrative leave after shots were fired during a chase through the streets of the Cereal City on Saturday.
Officers responding to a report of a bank heist at the PNC branch in the 2000 block of Capital Avenue Southwest recognized the getaway car from a description and gave chase.
During the pursuit, suspects fired several shots at officers, striking squad cars with bullets. The suspects crashed near Cherry and Elm Street, and, after an exchange of gunfire, a woman and two men surrendered.
One of the robbers was treated for a hand wound. No officers were injured, and the officers will remain on leave until a routine shooting review is conducted.
More information is expected to be released Monday.
