PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — A fire in a machine that handles wood and sawdust caused about $60,000 damage at a door-manufacturing facility in Portage.
It happened late Tuesday at Eliason Corporation on Shaver Road. The company produces industrial doors.
Firefighters said it was a tough blaze to tackle, in part, because the scene was some distance from hydrants. Thick smoke and fire also made its way into the ventilation system.
Damage to the equipment was minimal. Officials with the company say they only expect to lose one day of production.
