BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The testimony of a terrified child helped convince a Calhoun County judge that an Albion city councilman should stand trial for allegedly touching a nine-year-old girl at Albion Elementary.
Maurice Barnes used to volunteer at the school.
He’s charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and, because he was convicted of felonious assault 15 years ago, he has also been charged as a habitual offender, which could lengthen his jail term if he is convicted.
The 60-year-old maintains he’s innocent.
