KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Borgess Medical Center has illuminated its “Tree of Love” in an event at the hospital’s campus on Gull Road.
The 30th-annual lighting happened Thursday.
Dozens of people showed up for food, free entertainment, speeches and the annual lighting of the tree itself.
Coordinator Anne Witherspoon says the fundraiser has set a $75,000 goal this year to raise money to fight breast cancer. They fund mammography tests for the underinsured and go a step further with biopsies when needed.
“They might not be able to pay for that biopsy if they need it,” Witherspoon said. “So, we cover those costs.”
She says catching the disease early is the key.
For $8, anyone can purchase a light in the name of a cancer victim, either by going to their website or stopping by their office.
