KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — The story of a 35-year-old Kalamazoo man who caught a common cold, went into a coma and has now died is spreading through social media.
Nick Avitable is a bank employee who came down with the bug last Sunday. By Monday morning he was unresponsive and by Friday he had died from complications. Doctors could only find a simple rhinovirus in his system, the type responsible for colds.
They say it may have been complicated by his Chohn’s disease.
To further complicate matters, his wife, Rose broke her arm in a fall soon after her husband became ill. She is five months pregnant and has a three year old to look after.
