KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Have you seen more deer in the City of Kalamazoo in the past few years? It appears suburban development and rising deer populations have prompted a number to seek new feeding grounds.
A group of neighborhood associations in Kalamazoo has been working on a plan to manage the city’s herds and will present a 44-page report to the Kalamazoo City Commission this evening on their recommendations for a deer management plan.
A survey conducted by the group shows a little less than half are concerned about the issue, and they are as much for the safety of the deer as for residents.
The ad hoc committee claims the threat goes beyond complaints of deer “nibbling on the hostas”.
