KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo woman has been found guilty of over two dozen counts of tax fraud.
Fontrice Charles, 39, started a business calling herself the “No. 1 Tax Lady.” Now, she will likely face prison time after she falsified the returns for nearly a thousand clients over a three-year period, collecting as much as $4 million in illegally-obtained refunds.
U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles says a jury found Charles guilty of 27 felony tax fraud charges. One of them involves filing a false return for not claiming all the money she gained while running her scam on the government.
Kalamazoo Federal Judge Paul Maloney will handle the sentencing, but no date has been set.
