UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — WalletHub.com has ranked Kalamazoo 32nd among college towns and cities in its 2015 listing of over 320 locations.
Spokesperson Jill Gonzalez said young people find the home of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College enticing.
“Cost of living is pretty low,” Gonzalez said. “Average rent, that’s also low — actually, fifth-lowest.”
“We even looked into monthly fitness clubs and how much burgers and pizza cost,” Gonzalez said.
She also said Kalamazoo has an exceptional youth-oriented environment.
“Kalamazoo has the fourth-highest percentage of single persons, about 75 percent of people there,” Gonzalez said. “Also, a high number of 18 to 35-year-olds, so you’re really going to get that student-community feel.”
Kalamazoo placed ahead of Grand Rapids, Detroit and Lansing this year. Ann Arbor finished on top.
