MATTAWAN (WKZO-AM) — Michigan State Police are trying to figure out what caused a pickup to veer into a cable median and catch fire on eastbound Interstate 94 near Mattawan.
Witnesses say the vehicle was swerving between lanes of the freeway just prior to the wreck, which happened at around 7:20 a.m. Thursday.
The 28-year-old Lawton man driving the truck was rushed to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo with minor injuries. He was able to escape the pickup before it caught fire.
It’s not believed alcohol was a factor in the crash.
No injuries were reported in a secondary crash, where a car struck a semitrailer while trying to navigate through heavy traffic in the area.
