KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Downtown Kalamazoo’s Annual Chili Cook-Off returns this Saturday.
Organizers say this community event and is how participants have stayed warm on a cold Saturday for the past 15 years.
The Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership says it’s teaming with downtown businesses to provide a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience. You can walk through downtown Kalamazoo while trying chili from more than a dozen downtown businesses, and then vote for your favorite.
An Official Judge’s Panel will determine which chili competitors deserve the “Judge’s Best Chili.” Chili Cook-Off attendees will be able to vote through text message to determine “People’s Choice,” “Best Retailer,” and “Best Restaurant” awards. Winners are announced after all the chili is gone and results have been tallied.
The Chili Cook-Off has been moved from inside individual businesses to an entirely outdoor event and the Kalamazoo Mall has been closed to traffic to provide more space to socially distance.
Attendees are expected to: wear masks when approaching and in front of tents and within six feet of others; follow the flow of traffic laid out at the event through signage.
Opportunities for person-to-person contact have been limited as much as possible.
2022 Chili Cook-Off spoons will be available for purchase for $5.00 on the day of the event or can be pre-ordered online.
