PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Portage Public Safety detective is under investigation for snapchatting with an underage high school student.
The now former Portage officer is under criminal investigation for an inappropriate picture he sent a 17-year-old girl, who he met while working off-duty as a coach at Vicksburg Community Schools, according to state police.
A Portage Public Safety official recently spoke with WWMT and said that the detective resigned voluntarily last week.
The girl told Michigan State Police investigators he sent her an unsolicited picture of himself over Snapchat last July. Detectives launched the investigation on November 10 and submitted it for review weeks later to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office.
The case is still under review for possible criminal charges.
Vicksburg Community Schools said the detective worked as a volunteer with the district from 2015 until he was suspended November 2021.
The man is not being identified since he has not yet been charged with a crime.
