LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Gov. Rick Snyder is awaiting the arrival of legislation on his desk that will carve out millions in tax breaks for data processing companies.
After lawmakers approved the legislation late Tuesday, Snyder said he’ll take the next couple of days to ensure the deal makes sense.
“Is it something that’s fair and equitable, in terms of the marketplace? The other issue is what it does to our revenues,” Snyder said. “So, those will be a couple of issues I’ll be looking at as the bill comes to my desk.”
But he also said he generally liked what he read as the legislation was being debated.
“It’s proactive and positive to say that, you know, the legislature looked at this and took it as a very serious issue and is trying to improve the business climate to create more jobs in Michigan,” Snyder said.
Nevada data processor Switch requested those cuts after proposing a $5 billion project at the vacant Steelcase Pyramid outside Grand Rapids.
