KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Schools trustees have unanimously approved a resolution urging Gov. Rick Snyder to veto a measure that would ban school and city officials from discussing proposed millages and bond issues in the 60 days before an election.
Supt. Michael Rice said that the prohibition was tacked on to a package Wednesday that some lawmakers didn’t have a chance to read before the vote.
He said there were no committee hearings, no notices and no suggestions that the ban was even being considered.
“This is lousy legislation and shame on the people who voted on it,” Rice said. “They should have voted on it, and they, most assuredly, shouldn’t have voted for it.”
The board is also urging parents to contact their local elected officials about the bill.
