KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy on the exhumed body of a 73-year-old woman to determine if she was administered a lethal dose of drugs when she died three years ago.
Joseph Weeks, the 55-year-old son of Evelyn Weeks, has already been charged with embezzlement for allegedly siphoning money from a charity event for the foundation of Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata, who was killed in the line of duty.
Weeks was working as an EMT at the time.
Comments from his ex-wife, the disappearance of a bag of drugs from an ambulance and a motive indicating that Weeks would benefit from his mother’s death has prompted authorities to take a second look at the case.
They say, because of her age, no autopsy or tests were conducted when she died. He was the last one to see her alive and the one who discovered her body.
