VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Michigan State Police say the search for cash and valuable holiday gifts could be the motive behind a rash of car burglaries in the Mattawan, Lawton and Paw Paw areas.
Lt. Dale Hinz says the thieves were going through neighborhoods and apartment parking lots, looking for unlocked vehicles and taking whatever valuables that were found inside.
Hinz says it was evident from the footprints in the snow outside the Trestle Creek subdivision that the people involved the crime spree were targeting unlocked cars and not wasting any time with vehicles that were locked.
Hinz is urging people to lock their cars and trucks
