CHICAGO, IL (WKZO AM/FM) – Lucas Giolito struck out 13 over seven scoreless innings as the Chicago White Sox trounced the Detroit Tigers 9-0 Thursday afternoon.
Giolito allowed just three hits as he evened his record at 2-and-2. Eloy Jimenez hit a two-run homer and Tim Anderson smacked a solo shot for the White Sox, who swept the four-game series and won their fifth straight overall. Jose Abreu had three hits including a two-run double in the victory.
Spencer Turnbull yielded three runs in two frames while walking four as he fell to 2-and-2. The Tigers have lost nine in-a-row to dip to 9-and-14 on the year.
The Tigers continue their road trip as they begin a three-game series against the Indians tonight. Cleveland has beaten Detroit 20 straight times. Michael Fulmer gets the start for Detroit in the opener while Cleveland counters with Adam Plutko.
Tigers relief pitcher Buck Farmer has returned to the bullpen after being activated from the 10-day disabled list. Farmer had been out with a left groin strain. To make room on the roster, Detroit designated pitcher Carson Fulmer for assignment.
