KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With COVID-19 infections setting new records because of the Omicron strain, Kalamazoo Public Schools is offering incentives for those students that get vaccinated.
The United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region is providing the funding, so the district can offer a financial incentive to those who get the shot.
Staff, students and their families who get vaccinated between December 10 and February 1 could receive one of 70 $50 Visa gift cards.
Based on advice from health experts, Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri says students who have been vaccinated will also face less stringent requirements when it comes to exposures and quarantines, and will be less likely to miss classes.
The district also plans to sponsor two vaccination clinics on January 29 at Hillside Middle School and February 19 at Milwood Middle School.
