KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — GasBuddy.com says the average price for a gallon of fuel in west Michigan should remain low to start the new year.
Analyst Gregg Laskoski says he doesn’t expect major price changes until refineries switch over to more-expensive summer blend gas in February or March. But even then, pain at the pump will remain somewhat limited.
“We’ll be starting 2016 about 25 cents a gallon lower than where we started 2015,” Laskoski said. “That’s good news for consumers, because it suggests that, when prices peak, they probably won’t be as high as they were in 2015.”
Laskoski also says he’s not expecting any huge deviations from the usual annual trend.
“We may see the highest prices as we get closer to Memorial Day weekend and the early summer,” Laskoski said.
The state average is near $2 a gallon, which mirrors the national average.
