KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Local hunger-relief charity group God’s Kitchen of Michigan has announced a large donation that was recently made to its cause.
On December 16, Vice President and COO of Seelye Auto Group Mickey Seelye presented God’s Kitchen of Michigan with a large donation.
A personal donation was also made by Stan Qualls, Business Manager of Seelye.
Officials say a portion of Seelye’s contribution will also support the Broncos Kitchen Foundation to continue its mission of feeding local college students.
Broncos Kitchen serves free dinners on Mondays and Thursdays to enrolled college student and their immediate families.
“This is truly a blessing for our hunger-relief enterprise,” Chairman of God’s Kitchen of Michigan Pastor William Stein said in a statement. “God bless Mickey and the entire Seelye Auto Group family for becoming our Community Partner, and pledging to help us fight hunger in Kalamazoo and Portage.”
Andrew Messecar, Co-Chairman of the Broncos Kitchen Foundation, added that Seelye Auto Group’s gift was timely as Broncos Kitchen ran out of funding last week.
“Thanks to our sponsors, we will be able to serve a free Christmas dinner to the college community on Wednesday,” Messecar said in a statement. “After that, Broncos Kitchen is scheduled to take a brief hiatus until January 3, 2022, when we plan to resume dinner service at our 58 West Student Apartments meal site.”
According to Pastor Stein, Seelye requested that this year’s contribution remain confidential in keeping with Mickey’s religious beliefs. He cited Matthew 6:1-4, which instructs us to “conduct our charitable deeds in secret, and not to boast about being approved by man.”
“Last year, I made the mistake of sharing the dollar amount with the public,” Pastor Stein said. “This year, I will refrain from disclosing the amount to respect Mr. Seelye’s wishes.”
On December 22, God’s Kitchen of Michigan will host a free Christmas dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. at their Portage Chapel Hill Church meal site. Seelye Auto Group is a major sponsor of that event, Stein said.
God’s Kitchen of Michigan is currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
The hunger-relief program is projected to serve its 150,000th dinner by the end of this year.
