OTTAWA COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A suspected drunk driver is hospitalized and facing charges after a high-speed chase that ended with an airborne crash in Ottawa County.
Police agencies had been alerted to watch out for the car and its female driver after a reported hit-and-run at around 6 p.m. Saturday.
About three hours later, the car was spotted by a sheriff’s deputy in Hudsonville, who pulled the driver over. As the deputy was walking up to the suspect’s window, the driver bolted.
The chase ended when the driver tried to take the curve at Chicago Drive and 40th Avenue.
She failed, propelling the vehicle airborne. It landed on railroad tracks and then crashed into a shed, which contained control equipment for the railroad crossing.
The woman’s name and condition hasn’t been released.
