KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Election officials in Kalamazoo County say voters should brace for longer wait times on Election Day if a bill banning straight-ticket voting becomes law.
Clerk Tim Snow said, according to the Bureau of Elections, other states have shown increases in the amount of time a voter spends with their ballot when the straight-party option is removed.
“They’re guesstimating about three to seven minutes for someone to actually vote, that would be the entire ballot and each office,” Snow said.
And he said those minutes will add up, given the option’s popularity.
“We have had about 40 to 45 percent of our voters use that straight-party option,” Snow said.
Snow said his office will explore installing more voting stations at polling places to offset the lengthened waits normally seen during presidential and gubernatorial elections
